The story goes back to
Christmas of 1983 when Hélène Duguay thought she would offer
her mother a porcelain doll she had made dessed up as in the olden days.
It turned out to be the beginning of a happy and enduring partnership.
Mother and daughter decided to add to the family and a year later, they
had made some thirty dolls, each more beautiful than the last. Their creations
were proudly exhibited in an art gallery and proved to be an instant attraction.
Les Dames de Soie were born...
From july 1997 to October 2007, other passionate doll artists have joined the two founding partners,
bringing with them their talents as artists, sculptors, fashion designers,
dressmakers and seamstresses. Up to its closing in October 2007, it was possible to observe those people who had so carefully crafted our dolls
in the various workshops at the Economuseum® of Dolls
in Québec City.
Hélène Duguay now works in her private workshop. She is still doing repairs and renovation of dolls and stuffed toys. It is always possible to get yourself a doll signed "LES DAMES DE SOIE". Each doll is unique , made to the highest standard by an artisan dollcrafter and signed with the original detail : a tiny flower painted on the left cheek.
A numbered Certificate of Authenticity signed "Les Dames de Soie" accompanies each doll. |
